How to Choose a Porn Recovery App

Compare porn recovery apps by device support, blocking tools, tracking, privacy, subscription costs, and the kind of support you want.

By the Unhook team · Updated

Start with the job you want the app to do

A porn blocker, a streak tracker, and a recovery app solve different practical problems. A blocker adds restrictions. A tracker records time or activity. A broader app can combine these with reflection and community tools. Choose the features you will actually use, then check their limits.

This guide is written by the Unhook product team. It is a buying checklist, not an independent ranking of apps or a treatment recommendation.

Questions to ask before installing or subscribing
Your priorityWhat to check
Content restrictionsWhich browsers, websites, and apps can it restrict? What permissions are required? Can the restrictions be changed or removed?
Progress trackingCan you record more than a streak, such as mood, habits, or journal entries? What happens when you reset a streak?
PrivacyWhat stays on your device? What is synced? Which service providers process AI conversations or analytics?
AccountabilityAre there community spaces or direct messages? Who can see your posts, and what moderation is available?
Device supportDoes the current version support your phone and operating system? Which features work on a watch or tablet?
CostWhat is included before subscribing? What is the renewal price, billing period, and cancellation process?

Do you need a blocker or a broader toolkit?

If your immediate priority is restricting a set of sites or apps, review the blocking controls already available on your device as well as third-party options. Apple documents content and privacy restrictions on iPhone.

If you also want to record patterns, keep a journal, or participate in a community, compare broader tools. For Unhook, our blocker setup guide explains permissions and separate controls. Read each app's feature description; the word “recovery” alone does not tell you what it includes or whether it fits your needs.

Read privacy and AI details before sharing

Look for a policy that explains data collection, service providers, deletion requests, and community visibility. If an app has AI chat, check where messages are processed and what the AI can and cannot do. Avoid entering information you are not comfortable sharing under those terms.

For Unhook, those details are in the privacy policy. Lumina is an AI companion, not a clinician.

Check the actual purchase screen

A free download can still require a subscription for ongoing features. Before confirming, read the amount due, trial eligibility if offered, renewal date, and recurring price. Save the receipt so you know which account manages the subscription. See how Unhook pricing works for an example.

Where does Unhook fit?

Unhook combines a content blocker with streak tracking, journals, guided breathing, games, an AI companion, and community features on Apple devices. It may fit if you want those tools in one app. It is not currently an Android option, and the complete system requires a paid subscription.

Review the feature overview and current App Store listing before deciding. No app can guarantee a personal outcome; this checklist does not replace advice from a qualified healthcare professional.
